Break into Tech — NACOS LASU

I spoke at "Break into Tech," a session hosted by NACOS LASU, sharing my own story of breaking into and navigating tech — on knowing why you're here, staying consistent, putting yourself out there, and above all, telling your own story.

The session

I spoke at Break into Tech, a session hosted by Hasbiyallah Oyebo — VP of the Nigeria Association of Computing Students (NACOS), LASU. The goal was simple: help students figure out how to break into, and navigate, tech — using my own story to do it.

The speaker lineup for the session.

What I told them

Know who you are and why you're here. Too many people rush into tech just because someone else is making crazy money from it, without ever figuring out what they actually want for themselves.

Be consistent. I didn't sugarcoat it — consistency is hard. But doing something over and over, for long enough, turns it into a habit; it becomes part of you. And to stay consistent, you need purpose.

Put yourself out there. I told them how I started doing exactly that — it's always weird at first. Find a community, network, volunteer strategically. They'd probably heard all of this before; what made it land was telling my own story inside each one.

The one thing I left them with

Whatever you do, tell your story. Don't be the boring one who shows up and posts like everyone else. Write, create, and share your own story.

The comments afterwards were genuinely good, and I want to do a lot more of this. The goal is simple: educating others, leveraging technology and my voice.
