TVC — The Big Issue: Debating the AFCON Final

On TVC's The Big Issue, I debated one of the year's most contested football decisions live on air — the AFCON final between Senegal and Morocco, and the controversial call to award the title to Morocco after Senegal appeared to have won it.

The debate

TVC's The Big Issue put me on air to argue one of the year's most contested football stories: the AFCON final between Senegal and Morocco, and the controversial decision to award the title to Morocco after Senegal appeared to have won it. It's exactly the kind of question a live debate show exists for — the sort that splits a room the moment it's raised.

Making the case, live

Debating on live television is its own kind of pressure: there are no second takes, a host pushing back, and a clock running the whole time. I made my argument, held it up against the counter-points in the studio, and kept my composure with the cameras rolling. It's the same muscle I've been sharpening on the debate stage — I was named Best Debater at my university's debate society — only here the audience was national.

Why I say yes to these

Every appearance like this is a rep — in thinking on my feet, defending a position clearly, and staying composed under pressure. Those skills outlast any single debate, and they're a big part of why I keep showing up when the invitation comes.
